Naming Days

A Celebrant baby naming day offers a beautiful non-religious alternative to a christening.

It is a chance for family and friends to celebrate the arrival of a child into a family, and the joys that this arrival brings, by welcoming the child and affirming your love and commitment to them (be it biological, adoption or the merging of step families).

Every ceremony is unique and personalised to the child.  There is no pattern or script to be followed allowing the ceremony to flow how you would like it to be, perhaps including readings, poems or encorporating siblings in the welcoming.

You may also wish to nominate non-religious godparents, friends or family members, who you would like to play a guiding role in your child’s life.  This is the perfect place  for them to publically declare their promises to your child.

Guide parents are encouraged to write their own promises, so they can be personal and meaningful and will hopefully be ones that each will keep.

Other ideas you may choose to use may include

Lighting a unity candle

Planting a tree

Sand ceremony

Buddhist flags

Guest message book

I will also include a presentation box of your personalised ceremony and a unique commemorative certificate for the child and each of the guide parents.

Naming days can be held any day, at any time, and at any place e.g. back garden, hotel, or unusual location.

Although this is a formal baby naming ceremony, it holds no legal status and your baby’s birth must still be registered at a local registry office during the legal time span.

The fee (£300) will include: one or two meetings with the family, writing and planning your ceremony in accordance with your wishes and conducting the ceremony on the day.
